Today we are talking about the right top for mid-length and long statement necklaces. How to best wear these beauties.
Mid-length necklaces are extremely versatile and best complement V-necks, square necks, halter tops, and off-the-shoulder shirts. Necklaces featuring slight or dramatic angles are great for V-necks and square-necked shirts. Try this White and Grey Statement Necklace with a teal shirt for a fun look or a white top of a minimalist look!
Long statement necklaces pair well with turtlenecks and other high-necked shirts as well as boat necks. This Cream Handcrafted Link Necklace is a neutral but textured piece that would look great with any color turtleneck or high-necked shirt. Finally, a boat neck’s elongated neckline is nicely offset with the circular beads – such as the ones featured in this Handmade Multi-Strand Orange Necklace.
So go right ahead and take an inventory of your wardrobe and determine which necklines make up the majority of your most-worn shirts. Using the suggestions in the past couple blog posts, invest in a statement necklace best suited for your current wardrobe and see how many new looks you can create. Remember statement jewelry doesn’t need to be intimidating!

This week we collaborated with Janeane from Designing from My Closet. She reached out to us via instagram to see if we would be willing to collaborate and we took one peek at her page and wow this girl really knows how to rock it!! So without hesitation we said yes. Plus she already owned a Sylca piece and styled it sooo fabulously that we just couldn’t resist. We went ahead and sent her this beautiful wooden necklace for her to style, and she came back with such a flattering post about us 🙂 Read her original post here
In today’s story we wanted to highlight how Janeane styled 1 necklace 3 different ways. As she said in her post “it was incredibly easy to style with so many items in my closet.”
Many wouldn’t think to pair our statement necklaces with a printed top as it may “get lost.” Well we have some news for you… It can definitely be done! Look how awesome these two pieces look together and as she says “Even with the patterned top, this necklace is still the star of the show.”
How It’s Made: Behind the Design at Sylca Design
How we started…
THE LOVE OF GREAT DESIGN has always been a part of our Sylca story and our inspiration to create can truly be drawn from anywhere. This journey to design began when Sylvia and her husband owned a small construction supply company in Colombia. With the aspiration to help create a feeling of comfort with luxury — blending the practical with the desirable — Sylvia drew on her creativity to help home builders design and decorate living spaces that evoked emotion within their model homes. After moving to the United States, her love for fashion and accessories took over as she began the next step of the journey working for a variety of designers styling consumers, and selling to boutiques locally. Her keen eye for trends, great color, and unique design blossomed the idea to create her own line of jewelry.
Where we are now…
With winter finally ending, now’s the time to rethink your wardrobe for the warmer weather!!! Here are 4 Spring trends your closet is begging for… But remember style isn’t about chasing every single trend, Instead it’s really about curating your own versions that make you feel confident and make you shine.
1) Statement Slip-Ons
It’s a no-brainer that slip-on sneakers are one of the easiest and most versatile shoes you can have in your wardrobe. For spring, go brighter and bolder. You can even experiment matching that bold slip on with your jewelry.
For a few years now Sylvia and I have been talking about giving back, and although we donated a little here and there, we hadn’t found the “right” organization to work with until now.
So here it is (drum-roll)…. We have partnered up with Kiva to help make a difference! With every purchase you make, we will donate a percentage to help empower Filipino women in need. Why women from Philippines you may ask. We picked women in the Philippines because this is where most of our handcrafted jewelry is made.
Have you heard of the quote- “Give a man a fish and you’ve fed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you’ve fed him for a lifetime.” ? We have! We are true believers of this quote which is why we have chosen Kiva to provide women with the tools and information to realize their own potential.
Kiva Empowers People
So what exactly is Kiva, and what do they do? Kiva empowers people around the world through microloans. They understand how important financial support is for entrepreneurs, especially those living in developing countries. Through our partnership, we will help to enrich countless lives and communities.
We are very happy to be able to give back to the women in The Philippines by helping them succeed in their entrepreneurial ventures. We encourage you to follow our progress by visiting our team website at http://www.kiva.org/team/sylca_designs where you can loan as well.

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a fabulous week and you are as ready as us for the weekend. We have a birthday party tonight for my mom’s friend and I will be having a little bbq Saturday (let’s keep our fingers crossed for some good weather). Anyway enough about the weekend, we do have to get through the next couple hours of work.
This weeks outfit definitely took me out of my comfort zone! Have you ever thought wow that looks great on my friend, and wished you could pull something like that off? I’m sure this happens to almost all of us. I love printed pants, but always thought will they look like Pajamas if I wear them? A few months ago my friend gave me this pair of pants. She never wore them because she felt like she could not pull them off, but thought I could. Well lets just say I sat on them since May because I also thought I couldn’t rock them. BUT today I am feeling a little fierce and said to my self “HECK lets just do it” and can I say WOW I am in love. Can I get these in all the colors/prints possible?? They are soooo comfy, unique and easy to wear! You will definitely be seeing me in these more often.
Challenge yourself this weekend to something you wouldn’t usually wear! You might just surprise yourself.
Happy Monday Everyone! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend 🙂
Have you ever had this happen to you? – You’re all dressed up on your way out but when you stop to look into the mirror you realize that there is something missing… Perhaps a that statement piece of jewelry. Whether you’re going on a date, dressing to impress, or going out with the girls you can ALWAYS use statement jewelry to transform your wardrobe. Here at Sylca we believe statement jewelry is wearable art, a conversation starter, and a show stopper.
We wanted to tell all our fans about the history of statement jewelry, and why we love it so much.
We already know how innovative the Egyptians were, and their fashion sense was definitely no different. From chunky necklaces to dangle earrings and bold statement rings, these were all part of an Egyptian jewelry box. Romans, followers and competitors of Egyptians were also sporting statement jewelry. The history of statement jewelry continued to evolve through time with the Victorian era and followed by Coco Chanel who brought to light the idea of costume jewelry. Her use of colored glass and crystals instead of gemstones made statement jewelry affordable to the everyday woman (and the savvy fashionista is born)
Today, statement jewelry is even more intricate, and it includes elements from all throughout history. From elaborated designs of the Victorian era to the bright colors of 60s, today’s jewelry has an amazing balance of all.
Today is a bit of a sad day because it is our LAST outfit inspiration of the year that will have a summer outfit. So here it goes, bye bye summer….. Do we really have to part ways already???
On a positive note, we do have Labor day weekend coming up so we need to focus on all the fun we will have while we say goodbye. What are you guys doing this Labor Day weekend? We have family coming into town to visit! Our niece/granddaughter will be here so we couldn’t be happier 🙂 🙂 She is now 6 months old, can you believe it- time really does fly.
Today’s outfit is simple yet so comfortable and stylish. This flowy pink dress is so versatile and easy to wear that it ended up being one of my most popular dresses, and probably the most practical one to style — especially during those HOT summer days. I can dress it up with a fancier statement necklace and some heals or make it casual with flip flops and an easy-going summery necklace.
Hope you guys like today’s outfit!

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. We are well rested and back at work as usual.
Being that we are still a little sad that the long weekend is over we decided to write Sylca’s Bucket List. 5 places we absolutely want to see before we die.
The northern lights in Canada. Photograph: Daniel J Cox/Corbis
1) Northern Lights – a common name for the Aurora Borealis. Watch nature’s theater unfold as you experience this rare and mystical event. Nigel Tisdall says “The northern lights are one of nature’s great displays: a mysterious, multicolored show in which the night sky is suddenly lit up with a wondrous glow that twists and swirls like a heavenly lava lamp.” How amazing would it be to see this! Who wants to join??

2) Galapagos Island – The Galapagos has always been one of our top “must see” destinations for a while. We are really into nature and what better place to discover the best in nature than this beautiful island. Mark Carwardine says “The Galápagos is probably the most famous wildlife-watching destination in the world. And no wonder – it’s almost impossible to exaggerate the sheer spectacle of the place that provided inspiration for Charles Darwin’s ground-breaking theory of natural selection.”
Safari in Namibia – Photograph from yourtripideas.com
3) African – There are many places to go in Africa, but one that has stood out to us is Namibia for its wildlife and landscapes. This is definitely a place we would love to go to get inspiration for future collections. Nigel Richardson: “Of all the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa, Namibia is arguably the most comprehensively tourist-friendly. Not only does it have exceptional wildlife – including a quarter of the world’s cheetahs and the last free-ranging population of black rhino – and a well-developed network of parks, reserves and safari lodges, but the landscapes of its coastline and deserts are some of the most photographed and gasped over in the world, meriting a visit in their own right.”
Conrad Rangali Island Maldives Hotel- Photograph from http://luxoticworld.com
4) Maldives – The Maldives wins the wow factor hands down. The Islands offer a picture perfect scenery with its white sands, crystal blue waters and palm trees. We would definitely would go with a spa resort to achieve the best relaxation and feeling of escape. To discover and explore the beautiful clear waters and mesmerizing coral reefs we would choose Snorkeling. The ocean sunset is like magic and give us the perfect setting for a romantic getaway with our significant others.
Plitvice National Park, Croatia – Photograph from http://www.travelmint.com
5) Plitvice National Park – We thought the water off the coast of Croatia was stunning, but then we learned about the Plitvice National park and its spectacular blue lakes and waterfalls. The park is centered around a stunning network of lakes, waterfalls and natural dams. Thanks to the park’s ecosystem, the water is all crystal clear, with visitors able to go inside these ancient waterways.
Hope you enjoyed our travel bucket list for this year! What do you guys think? Are these places you would also like to see or do you already have your own bucket list?

We are soo happy for fall fashion! it is our favorite season, but it is difficult to figure out what to wear when the weather outside is still so HOT and Humid. Today we finally have a “colder” day and decided to bring out some of our fall fashion items!
Here I put a black flowy top from one of my favorite designers Stella Carakasi. They do this style in a few different colors, but I bought it in black because I think it is a great canvas for our artsy handcrafted necklaces. This top is so easy and comfortable, not to mention versatile. I can wear it over jeans, printed pants, or a skirt, and accent it with a fabulous statement necklace.
I paired this black top with a pair of wide printed pants. These pants are great because they can be worn over many seasons. In spring/summer I will wear these with a lighter fabric top and in fall/winter I will use a sweater or long sleeve shirt. Oh and don’t forget your hands! Always add a handcrafted ring and/or bracelet to make sure your outfit comes together nicely.
We would love to see your outfits that include some Sylca handcrafted jewelry! Tag us on Instagram or email us your pictures.
