On the Fringe
Looking for a way to add some playfulness to your spring wardrobe? Designers have embraced fringe with a fresh new perspective. It’s not just for Western looks anymore.
In suede and leather, fringe looks particularly modern and can be mixed with your everyday separates for an instant splash. For evening, touches of fringe in dressier silks look especially chic. Fringed hems on dresses and skirts are flattering, creating movement and glimpses of skin.
If living on the fringe seems too adventurous, no worries! You can look to small accessories with fringe, whether it be a pair of shoes, a bag or statement jewelry. We love to style up with these bright Sylca Designs wood and elastic handmade earrings.
If you are a little more daring we recommend our Modern Fringe Necklace in Wine or in Gray

2016’s Color of the Year is: Rose Quartz AND Serenity!
Pantone rocked the design world in December when it announced there would be not one but two shades for its 2016 “Color of the Year.” The two colors are Rose Quartz, a girly, pastel pink, and Serenity, a soft blue. These colors will reign supreme this year on catwalks, in floral arrangements, throughout marketing materials, and yes, in jewelry!
According to Pantone’s website
, the annual Color of the Year is meant to serve as a symbol and express a shared worldwide mood and attitude. Color experts from around the world chose Rose Quartz and Serenity because of the compassionate, calming properties they both possess. Pantone’s site states that Rose Quartz is warm and embracing, while Serenity is cool and tranquil, and that, together, the two reflect “connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
On that note, while we can only guess at how consumer-oriented industries will introduce Rose Quartz and Serenity into their everyday vernacular, we are excited to announce several trend-friendly pieces that you’ll love wearing this year and for years to come!
Pantone suggests pairing Rose Quartz and Serenity for a dose of calm and relaxation. We love this idea and are already looking forward to seeing the ways our customers create striking outfits using both shades, but don’t feel like both colors have to be worn together. We recommend you have fun playing with the colors on their own and see what works best for you!
We have good news for ladies looking to keep their jewelry collections on trend throughout 2016: Our latest collection features several handcrafted statement necklaces with color trends in mind – especially Rose Quartz!
Sylvia is wearing one of our new circle pendant statement necklaces that is offered in multiple colorways, but we absolutely adore the feminine yet confident look of this pink version! The cord is adjustable, so it’s easy to play with different lengths for any and every outfit. It’s lightweight, making it an easy choice to wear alone or with additional necklaces as a simple “pop” of pink. One of our favorite features is that the circle pendant can also be worn as a bangle – talk about versatile! The circle pendant necklace is available for order here.
Camila and Sylvia are wearing four necklaces in total, which goes to show how flawless layering can look if done right! We especially love the geometric touches on both our Pink Cube Necklace and Pink and Gold Necklace. Beautiful on their own, both of these necklaces can be worn as a single strand with other necklaces for a unique look or doubled for an easy splash of color. If you’re a little more daring, you can stay on trend by wearing either of these beautiful handcrafted statement necklaces over a pale blue shirt. (Read our blog about how to wear statement necklaces with any neckline for tips!)
According to Pantone, 2016’s Color of the Year evokes a “sense of composure” and bring “feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.” Whether or not you feel more serene and compassionate wearing these colors, we know you’ll feel beautiful!

Some women steer clear of statement jewelry because of the heavy weight; but this is a misperception when it comes to Sylca. Our Statement Necklaces are daring and bold in size, with dazzling architectural shapes, yet they never feel heavy or bulky. In fact, Sylca statement necklaces are so lightweight, you might forget that you are wearing one!
The secret? Each and every Sylca necklace is made from the most sustainable, lightweight natural (sometimes recycled) materials such as wood, shell, resin and horn. Our materials are sourced from the Philippines, where Filipino women—many of them stay-at-home mothers in need of extra income—hand make each piece.
A Sylca Statement necklace is versatile, travels easily and helps you feel beautiful and confident, no matter your age or size. My mother and I choose materials with your lifestyle in mind; and we envision our customers feeling lighter, moving through the world with ease and grace. Send us a photo of you or a friend, feeling light and carefree in a Sylca statement necklace or tag us on facebook and instagram with the #mysylcastory

Happy Monday Everyone! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend 🙂
Have you ever had this happen to you? – You’re all dressed up on your way out but when you stop to look into the mirror you realize that there is something missing… Perhaps a that statement piece of jewelry. Whether you’re going on a date, dressing to impress, or going out with the girls you can ALWAYS use statement jewelry to transform your wardrobe. Here at Sylca we believe statement jewelry is wearable art, a conversation starter, and a show stopper.
We wanted to tell all our fans about the history of statement jewelry, and why we love it so much.
We already know how innovative the Egyptians were, and their fashion sense was definitely no different. From chunky necklaces to dangle earrings and bold statement rings, these were all part of an Egyptian jewelry box. Romans, followers and competitors of Egyptians were also sporting statement jewelry. The history of statement jewelry continued to evolve through time with the Victorian era and followed by Coco Chanel who brought to light the idea of costume jewelry. Her use of colored glass and crystals instead of gemstones made statement jewelry affordable to the everyday woman (and the savvy fashionista is born)
Today, statement jewelry is even more intricate, and it includes elements from all throughout history. From elaborated designs of the Victorian era to the bright colors of 60s, today’s jewelry has an amazing balance of all.

Fall is all about embracing changes! We see the changes in leaves, fashion, the days get shorter and many more, but life in general is about learning to like change. It keeps us on our toes and gets us moving forward. Here at Sylca, we LOVE change especially when we are talking about fall fashion trends! I don’t know how many times we have told you already, but it is our favorite season. The clothes are comfy and super cute. Plus BOOTS are the BEST!!!!
Start with you basics!
1) Boots- this year the mayor shoe trend is short ankle booties with cropped jeans. Make sure to get them in your basic colors. For us our favorites are black, and camel, but really it all depends on what colors you wear most.
2) Basic over-sized tees- These will be easy staples to your everyday outfit. Get them in all your basic colors black, browns, blues, greys, greens and tans for fall. This will be the key to your layering look for this fall.
3) Sweaters – Baggy and comfy is the trick here! We like to pair them with the basic tees underneath when they are open in the front. Go wild with the sweater! You can make it fun autumn colors like rust or crazy prints, but make sure to keep your first layer simple. Add some accessories like a statement necklace or statement scarf for an added sass to this look.
4) Scarves – you can never have too many of these. Add a chunky infinity scarf to keep warm. You can pair it with a long pendant necklace for a layered look. If you decided to go on the more basic side with your outfit this is the time to add some spice to it with a printed scarf and pair it with statement earrings for a fun look.
5) Jackets- If it is a bit chilly and you will be outside a lot wear your favorite leather jacket over a basic tee with a statement necklace and/or a chunky scarf. If you are wearing a baggy and chunky sweater go for a shorter trench coat as they are super in right now.
But always remember fashion is what you feel best in and what makes you the most comfortable and confident. Just because something is in style does not mean it will be the correct fit for you! When getting dressed make sure to follow your heart and wear what you feel good in while still trying new things and stepping outside your comfort zone.

If you’ve been in or near a store that sells any amount of jewelry, whether it be a small boutique or a large retailer, chances are you’ve seen statement jewelry. From loud, funky earrings to colorful, oversized rings, this trend is not going anywhere. Celebrities and bloggers love to accentuate their outfits with jewelry. You may have found yourself wondering… can I pull off the statement jewelry look??
If your jewelry collection has consisted of “safe,” understated jewelry like small diamond or pearl stud earrings, one or two rings, and a small charm on a delicate necklace, it’s time for you to add something new to your look. The good news is that you – yes, you – can pull off statement jewelry! You don’t need to go crazy updating your accessories; one piece of jewelry can make clothes you’ve been wearing for years “pop” in brand new ways. When it comes to statement jewelry, remember that when it comes to your clothing, less is more: skip the patterns and let one piece of statement jewelry be the star of the show. Also, stick to one piece of statement jewelry at a time: too much can be overpowering and appear showy.
Some of our most popular items over the past few years have been statement necklaces. The great news is that nearly all necklines are suited for statement necklaces, so long as you consider proportions and patterns. We offer many lengths, colors, sizes, and textures, so you can easily create an outfit that will stand out in a crowd. So you ask what necklaces pair best with each neckline?
Over the next week we will be talking about different necklines and which jewelry looks best with them sooo keep tune to learn more!

Have you ever looked into your closet and wondered… What necklines do my shorter necklaces look best with?
For example our Grey and Gold Wooden Link Necklace goes well with t-shirts, crewnecks, and collars. Solid-colored shirts with these necklines serve as a subdued backdrop for a bright statement necklace. You can also pair shorter necklaces with shirts that leave your collarbone or shoulders bare for a dramatic look. Scoop necks, sweetheart necks, and strapless shirts go really nicely with chunkier necklaces featuring oversized pendants, like this Blue and Silver Crescent Necklace.

Today we are talking about mid-length and long statement necklace. How to best wear these beauties.
Mid-length necklaces are extremely versatile and best complement V-necks, square necks, halter tops, and off-the-shoulder shirts. Necklaces featuring slight or dramatic angles are great for V-necks and square-necked shirts. Try this White and Grey Statement Necklace with a teal shirt for a fun look or a white top of a minimalist look!
Long statement necklaces pair well with turtlenecks and other high-necked shirts as well as boat necks. This Cream Handcrafted Link Necklace is a neutral but textured piece that would look great with any color turtleneck or high-necked shirt. Finally, a boat neck’s elongated neckline is nicely offset with the circular beads – such as the ones featured in this Handmade Multi-Strand Orange Necklace.
So go right ahead and take an inventory of your wardrobe and determine which necklines make up the majority of your most-worn shirts. Using the suggestions in the past couple blog posts, invest in a statement necklace best suited for your current wardrobe and see how many new looks you can create. Remember statement jewelry doesn’t need to be intimidating!
