How It’s Made: Behind the Design at Sylca Design
How we started…
THE LOVE OF GREAT DESIGN has always been a part of our Sylca story and our inspiration to create can truly be drawn from anywhere. This journey to design began when Sylvia and her husband owned a small construction supply company in Colombia. With the aspiration to help create a feeling of comfort with luxury — blending the practical with the desirable — Sylvia drew on her creativity to help home builders design and decorate living spaces that evoked emotion within their model homes. After moving to the United States, her love for fashion and accessories took over as she began the next step of the journey working for a variety of designers styling consumers, and selling to boutiques locally. Some of you might have already heard of us talking about Pearl S. Buck, and how happy we are to have our handcrafted statement jewelry in the gift shop. But for those who have not seen any of our other posts we would like to introduce you to Pearl S. Buck. She was a fantastic writer and an outstanding citizen of the world. Her legacy unites nations, societies, communities and individuals with an appreciation for cultural differences. Her foundation provides opportunities to explore and appreciate other cultures and help build better lives for children around the globe. We are truly happy and blessed to be able to sponsor a child in need and work with this phenomenal organization.
We invite you to browse through their website- and hope you fall in love with this organization as much as we did. And who knows maybe you will also find a child to sponsor.

It is such a thrill for us to be working with yet another amazing mother-daughter team! The ladies from Pat’s at Chautauqua are just fabulous.
The store started in 1988 by Patricia, a stay at home mom of 5. She began by making everything in store by hand and gradually started offering unique lines of clothing, jewelry, accessories, shoes, and art work. Her daughter Katherine now works with her, and just like us, they have a blast doing what they love.
Pat’s always has unique designs so if you are lucky enough to be visiting Chautauqua, NY stop by and say hi to them!
